I'm a firm believer that you have to win a championship before you can even be considered for such. After all, people seem to lose sight that winning is really what the sport is all about.
That said, win or not, Lebron still has a ways to go before he is the best player. Needs to work on defense and some fundamentals. But he has sick talent, no question about it.

James is certainly among the top ten best players in the NBA, but...
Is he the most talented? Without a doubt! I've seen the guy play live, and the player I like to compare him with the most is Magic Johnson. Like Magic, James always gets his teammates involved. Like Magic, James could play any position if needed (remember, Magic filled in admirably for Kareem back in 1980 when the Lakers were in the Finals against the Sixers). Like Magic, James can score from almost anywhere on the court. Unlike Magic, James does not yet have the supporting cast around him to maximize his talents. Magic had Kareem, James Worthy, Byron Scott, et al. Larry Bird had Dennis Johnson, Kebin McHale, Robert Parish, and Cedrick Maxwell. Michael Jordan had Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, B.J. Armstrong, and later on, Dennis Rodman. Kobe Bryant had Shaquille O'Neal, Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, and Rick Fox. All LeBron James has are a bunch of solid contributors, but no true running mate.
If Lebron James is going to be the very best player in the NBA, he has to do something totally out of his element: become more selfish. He has to take charge more and carry the Cavaliers on his back. He has to assert himself as scoring options A, B, C, and D. In other words, LeBron James is going to have to be...Kobe Bryant, the best player in the NBA (just avoid the off-court B.S. and be a jovial teammate).

No, he is not the top player in the NBA. He lacks the outside shooting range to be considered. Kobe Bryant, as much as I hate him, is the best player in the NBA right now. He can dominate a game both inside and out, and has tight defense.

Not quite, he has yet to increase his skills defensively to be considered the best player in the league. For now, and perhaps forseeable future, Kobe Bryant is the best player in the NBA.

Definatly not the best, I would have to say a Steve Nash, Tim Duncan, Dwayne Wade, or Dirk Novitski is probably some of the elite of the elite. I would have to say he is probably one of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA, and has many years to come and mature to become one of the best players.

With out a doubt he is the best player in the NBA. He is 6'8" and can dribble just as good as anybody. He has a good outside shoot, can post up, and wants to win every night. he can do anything he wants to do.
