I bought an ipod about 2 years ago and recently it keeps stopping, then skipping to the next song to the next and so on until it gets to the end of the playlist. unless i restart it it refuses to play anything. I dont want to send it back to calafornia for repairs or shell out another 350 euro for a new one. Any ideas for a quick easy solution?

You're pretty much S.O.L. Ever replace the battery? Of course you didn't because it has to be sent into a factory rep to replace it. That's iPod's biggest money-maker. You're lucky you got two year's use out of it! You don't say what iPod you have. Is it a Nano? If so, there are no moving parts. If not...might not be the battery but a mini-hard drive failier. I'd still go with the battery for starters. You might try cleaning all the contacts on the charger adapter and the iPod itself. Sometimes corrosion builds up and the contacts aren't made. Use some isopropyl alcohol or anything that will get down into those contact points and clean them. Cigarette lighter fluid is dandy. But I doubt that will cure your problem. Battery es muerto.

Hey, sorry to hear about your iPod.

There is not much you personally can do unless you are an electrician or a specialist in these kinds of situations in iPod.

The only appropiate thing to do is either buy out another protection plan from apple and then send it after about a couple of days.

The other alternative is to wait until the iPhone comes out later this year, but if you do decide to take that option, remember to back up all your music, videos etc to the PC before you give away the iPod.

Better more, don't give it away, sell it on eBay but do say that it is slightly faulty, some people don't care or some people just want it for the spare parts.

Hope this helps and hope you resolve the issue with your iPod :-)

Try resetting your iPod:

1) Press and hold Menu + Select (centre button)
2) iPod turns off and Apple Logo will appear
3) Main Menu appears - try now

I had the 4th Gen iPod (black and white screen) - probably the same as yours! Mine lasted from January 2005-June 2006 - 18 months. Grrr.

Do what I do with electronics when I am having a serious problem. Wipe the slate clean...

Meaning, reformat your iPod back to factory settings using iTunes. Simply connect your iPod to your computer, and when iTunes sees your iPod, click Restore and then press Restore on the pop up. It will sent your iPod back to factory setting.

Depending on the size of your iPod, it may take some time to upload all your music from your computer back onto the iPod again.

Try resetting it. Flick the hold button on and off, then hold down the centre button until the apple logo appears. Probably won't work, but worth a try when your Ipod's in a jam.
