I was reading in my Human Sexuality class that most girls begin to masturbate around age 3-5 and then stop around age 10-12, when the boys usually start. The book said it is because at that age, usually aroung puberty, girls are told that expressing their sexuality is wrong. It then went on to say that most women don't start to masturbate again until their mid-20s.
So ladies do you find this to be true, I do? I remember masturbating as a little girl but then I stopped as a teenager. I wanted to masturbate so badly but I did not because it was against my religion but mostly because my friends said any girl who masturbates is desperate. I did not start to masturbate again until college. But sometimes I think of all the sexual energy I wasted as a teenager.
If I had a daughter I would encourage her to masturbate and not inhibit her sexuality just because our society says "good girls shouldn't like sex". I know most men would not agree but ladies can you relate to what I am talking about?

Yeah, girls should masturbate more, this way they would be able to really get to know their bodies and don't be ignorant when the time for their time relationship comes, and masturbation helps noticing if there's any change in our bodies, so if we notice one change we can go see the doctor quick. Girls should start at puberty.... before they get in bed with someone. When you had a daughter encourage her to explore her sexuality, just make sure you give her enough information before.

I remember I had very sexual feelings as a kid but always thought they were 'wrong,' and so didn't act on them in ways such as masturbation. I actually sorta...erm... started again in my teens because suddenly it was like - you're going to have these sexual feelings (they'd not been explained to me at like age 3 for obvious reasons) so then it was like hey, I'm normal! And plus I went to an all girls, feminist school which I am SO thankful for :D

Not exactly. I didn't start masturbating and fully knowing what is was until 11. Completely normal if you do it. It's actually pretty healthy.

I don`t think masturbation is a moral issue. Animals masterbate. Masturbation may be the safest way to please yourself. Let`s face, some people are single, some people may be HIV positive and can`t have a partner. Sometimes masturbating is better than sex. Intercourse is not pro orgasm for women normally. We need to be manually stimulated. Masturbation is always done with manual stimulation.

I think that study is probably fairly accurate, except I never stopped during adolescence. This is probably because, when my mother caught me, she gave me "the talk." She explained that it wasn't dirty or wrong, but that it was private and should only be done in my room with the door closed.
I am very glad that my mother did not try to frighten me, and let me know that it was normal for me to explore my own sexuality. I grew up into a very healthy adult.
To the previous poster: Masturbation makes you unable to commit or feel love for your partner?!? What???? I'm in a very committed, loving relationship with my partner. How can someone have a good sex life or expect a partner to please them, if they don't know what turns them on or know how to please themselves?

Well, I didn't masterbate until I was 17, although I had explored my body as young as 12. I didn't even know there was such thing as a female orgasm until I was 17! lol
HTH : )

There is nothing with masturbating, just do it.
Express as much on your sexuality as your heart desires.
Plus us guys love watching a girl rub her hot pussy.

Definatley. I think masturbation lets you explore your own body. And i think that every woman/young woman should know they're own body. Im only young myself. But I'd tell my child about sex etc.. first, before they jump in at the deep end.

Good for you! Why is it that the natural act of procreating is viewed as "dirty/nasty" anyway? This country is really screwed up! ;-)=

Wow! I didn't know girls masturbated! No wonder girls are so shy. They feel guilty and have penis envy afterall.
Speaking of single women, does anyone know what Condi Rice does for a living?
