What left wing party in the UK are you thinking of?
Blair went on holiday at Berlusconi's house, and he is not the only New Labour politician to have contacts with the Italian right.
Many people in the UK with left-wing views are disgusted with the activities of right-wing Italian politicians. Association of New Labour politicians with the Italian Right, rather than members of the social democratic European parties with which Labour is formally allied, is a not inconsiderable reason why so many former Labour activists and suppoorters feel that Blair and his cronies have betrayed them (although the war in Iraq is an even bigger reason). The Labour Party's membership is less than half what it was in 1997.
The left, and that includes the moderate left, in the UK believes it no longer has a party to support (there is, I am glad to say, no communist party of any size in the UK), and grudges all the major parties because they are right-wing. And influences in Italy are considerably to blame for this.

All party's in the UK say they want to better the lot for all the people, that being the case and recognised by all. The argument is about how. Heated at times but rarely acrimonious.

The extreme left & right still hate each other but they are not very popular. Our main parties are the Conservatives (right) & Labour (left) & they are actually very similar in many ways, so the rivalry is not as aggressive.
