Yes, a women can experience light spotting or a light flow shortly before or when her normal period would be due. This is because the fertilised egg is implanting in the uterus & is completely normal. Some women continue to have 'periods' throughout their pregnancy too. If she is pregnant and has any further bleeding make sure she gets it checked out at the doctors just to be safe, but if its just as you mention above this is quite normal. All the best & I hope congratulations are in order!

I have just read in todays paper of a 19 year old girl giving birth, she didn't know she was pregnant as she had a full period through out the term.

Yes. I have heard of women experiencing this. To my knowledge, it's always lighter than a normal period, but many of the women said they didn't know they were pregnant b/c they thought they were having a period.
It's not super common though.

There was a girl in the paper yesterday who had periods throughout her pregnancy so she convinced herself that she was not pregnant, until she gave birth! You need to do a check.

it is very common for woman to have a period whether its light or even heavy.of course you still have to make sure its only a period. i would recommend she makes a appointment to see her GP.just to make sure I'm positive you both and your GP would rather make sure that everything is OK with her and the baby.i hope she has a lovely pregnancy and birth.congratulations
