Peyton Randolph is the man you're looking for, first president of the Continental Congress, or "United States of Congress Assembled". He served from September 5th to October 21st 1774, and again May 10th-23rd 1775. He was succeeded by Henry Middleton. On 30th April 1789, the former commander-in-chief of the continental army, George Washington was sworn in as the first president of the INDEPENDENT United States of America.
John Hanson didn't serve in 1715, he was born then but he did serve as President of the Congress in 1781-1782.

America had no President....America is a continent composed of North America and South America. The U.S. is in North America.
Continents don't have Presidents
Prior the formation of the United States of America that geographical area was ruled and owned by England.

I believe it was George Washington as he presided over the Constitutional Convention before being elected President of the United States.

Not as silly a question as some might think. Everyone who says George Washington is wrong. In fact Washington was the eighth President of the US, but the first after the Constitution was agreed. The first President was actually John Hanson (elected 1781).

North America is a continent. South America is a continent. But "America" is nation, and "American" is a nationality," which means it refers to one of the groups who live on one of those continents. Customarily, an American is someone who lives in the United States and whose ancestors, prior to 1500, lived in Europe. The first president from these people was George Washington.

To be President there must be a nation to be President of! America is not a nation/country it is broadly an incomplete geographical descriptor. To complete it (geographically) you need to add (for example) an adjective like "North" or "South" or "Central". The only country with "America" in its descriptor is the "United States of America". Therefore the first president of "America" (sic) is George Washington.
