My husband got me a heart shaped locket on a necklace. Are you suppose to take pictures from far away so the face comes out small?

No, open in a photo editor software and reduce the pixels.

take it too a printing shop.. tell them what you need it for and im sure they'll do it for you... orrr take a new picture from far away and then just print regular size and cut it out
