G'day,

Probation Service Officer... hmmmm... is that a public/government employment? If I'm not mistaken, all government jobs are only offered for Australian citizen only. You may want to check this again to make sure.

I'm an immigrant as well and when I was moving to Melbourne I applied for jobs through the connections that I got in my previous job and sure enough, I got one job offered for me when I arrived in Melbourne. So you might wanna try the same trick, although, again, not sure abt the residency/citizenship status.

I am enclosing some job websites as well that you may wanna try.

Good luck and welcome to Melbourne.

The best website for public service jobs is http://www.psgazetteonline.gov.au. Alternatively you may be able to apply directly to the Probation Service.

Depends on your visa type and if you are entitled to work in a government job. You would be informed of this when applying for your visa/work permit as to what positions you are and are not allowed to work in.

Though expect to work harder in Australia than what you do in Uk as they expect much more from their staff than they do in the UK.

Try some of the government sites listed below for positions that are currently available though you will have better luck in finding work when you are in the country

two ways.either apply for that job before you go or live off the money you're taking whilst looking for this job.the former would be better
