My car has some scratches on the rear bumper and sides, near the taillights. How much would it cost to get these removed? I have tried fixing them myself with paint I got from an auto parts store, but it looks like crap.

Without seeing it, its hard to exactly say.

But its always best to start off low and work your way up. So call up a good local car dealer and ask them who they use for a "touch up paint company" for their used cars. You can also look in the phone book under automotive detailing, automotive bumpers, automotive body repair as sometimes these guys are advertised there as well.

These guys are like a mini mobile body shop on wheels. They fix scratches, chips, nicks, scuffed bumpers, repaint entire bumpers, mirrors, trim, molding, etc. All the small items that a body shop would charge and arm and a leg for. Prices can range from $50 to $300 depending on the damage, color, location, etc.

Next would be, if these guys couldn't fit it, would be the typical body shop and allow them to repaint those entire panels to repair the damage. But on average, each panel is at least $400 to have painted by them, so right off its more.

The more high line the car dealer is that you call, the better the touch up paint company will be. As only the good ones get the high line lots and the bad ones get the Hyundai lots. The difference is one is an artist, one is a guy holding a paint brush.

I should know....as I do high line dealers as I myself am a Touch up guy....aka Automotive Cosmetics Specialist.

Usually deeo scratches can cost hundreds to fix, it usually entails repainting that entire side of the car. A good way to judge is if you run a finger over the scratch and you feel a deep obious gouge then it need to be completely repainted. Even at a Maaco it will run you 300-500 bucks. Dont attempt thos DIY paint touch up cans, they really never match perfect, i messed up my car that way.
