STAY AWAY FROM ms-config unless you know what you are doing ! just do the following

my computer
local disc c
documents and settings
(your user name )
start menu
programs - use your mouse click to remove from menu -right mouse click ( delete ) - you are removing shorcuts that the computor uses not the programs - and the programs windows needs are not here ( so you can do no harm ) if the program is not there then ms-config is it !

before you do this make sure you know how to use system restore to correct your mistakes

control panel
performance and maint.
(upper left window) system restore ( follow the menu )

simple and foolproof since it is reversible

jes' follow the steps:
1. goto the start button & open it
2. click on 'run' & type 'msconfig' (without quotes)
3. there are several tabs in the window that will open up. goto startup & uncheck the boxes of programs you feel are not needed at startup.
beware, you might also uncheck those programs you feel are not needed but are actually essential to the computer, so be armed with a bootable disc for any eventuality, & for god's sake, keep track of what you are unchecking in case you fall into the trap i just mentioned.
i suggest you uncheck 1 box at a time & restart, & don't touck boxes with complicated looking names like igfx tray unless you fully understand what they mean...

I'm going to assume that you're using windows.

try using msconfig

click on start, run, then type 'msconfig' and press enter - minus the quotes

under the startup tab, you should see all of the programs that are enabled to start during startup.

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS.

make sure you research the programs that are starting up to make sure that it's not going to cause your computer to not start up at all. i would suggest googling the program name

Each program has a way in it's own settings to change whether or not it starts when Windows starts! Use those settings to change the way they start! Using MsConfig is the lazy man's way of changing them, and is not the best way!

Start--run--type in msconfig, click on the the startup tab, and uncheck any programs you do not want to start when you start your computer. If you are not sure what they are used for, go to the google search engine, and type in the programs name, and they will tell you what it is used for..Good Luck..
