Microsoft Windows Defender tells me I have adware/spyware information in what they say may be "read only files". They suggested I try to delete that information by going into the file. The location is doc& settings\all users\application data. BUT when I go to that area, there is no folder entitled "application data". What should I do now??????

I've finally accessed the read-only files, but the system will not let me delete them. These are in a quarantine. Is there any reason why I can't delete them. Are they harmful?

You have to enable view "hidden files", it's on the options under Tools > Folder Options. Safe Mode is for Noobs.

The files are probably "hidden".
Double click on the My Computer icon
Go to Tools in the menu bat
Select Folder Options
Click on the View tab
Find the listing that says "Show hidden files and folders"
Select it
You should now be able to see that folder and the files in it
To get into Safe Mode
Boot the PC and immediately begin to repeatedly press the F8 key
Before the Windows logo appears, you should get a screen with a menu that offers you "Safe Mode"
To get out of Safe Mode, reboot the PC.

to boot into safemode restart Pc and tap F8. it brings up the selection screen.
To answer your other question, to view hidden folders, open the folder that contains the hidden files.. click on Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > Click on Show Hidden files and press okay.
Also to get out of safe mode. Just restart the PC again.

That folder is a "hidden, system folder". You need to unhide system folders first, by going to tools, folder options, view, and click "show hidden files and folders"
You need to be very careful when doing this as you might delete files that are required.

It is a hidden folder. Go to tools/folder options/view in any folder and place a check by show hidden folders.

my goodness! that spyware entered your system through the back door. neither windows malicious software removal tool, norton nor NOD32 can remove that. gather all you important files and save it on another drive. then reformat and reinstall ur OS. Some times there are spywares that clings to your RAM board and it will prohibit you from reinstalling an OS. Just detached your RAM from the motherboard and reattached it again and that will delete the virus on your RAM.

This is gonna help you - it did for me. Go to ccleaner.com, download ccleaner.exe (it's the best i know). Disconnect from Internet. Reboot system and log in as Admin. Install cclean and run the program. Make sure you run it 2/3 times each as admin, as use and most importantly again in safe mode. I am sure this should heal your sys. If it did, as in my case, clean your sys to your satisfaction, please award me 10 pts. Thanks and good luck.
P.S. I would love to help you further in case you need that.
