Is there anyplace on earth that has not yet been claimed by another country? For example, who owns Antarctica?

Could I (for example) go into the middle of the ocean and build something like an oil rig platform and make my own laws, etc???

Of course I don't really have the resources to do this, but what would be involved in starting a new country?

I have often thought I could design a better type of community outside the laws of the U.S. or other country. I would like to create a whole different philosophy of life....

Buy an island and go from there. There are plenty for sale, but they do tend to run the millions to billions of dollars. International recognition is the hard part, but just piss off President Bush. Then he will invade and you've got an international crisis on your hands. Better yet, discover oil under your country. Then you are guaranteed an invasion!

There is a guy who actually did what you mention: on an old oil platform he founded a new country. Unfortunately not many (if any) countries recognized it. I cannot remember the name, but it's quite famous.

Now, founding a new country is not really easy: you need to be recognized by other countries, and this in order to start any economical partnerships. Then you need to give yourself a constitution, adhere to international treaties (yep, or you'll end up like north Korea), produce, export, coin money (or adopt an existing one).

No, you could not own part of the ocean...it is considered "nutural ground." There are plenty of small countries that are privately owned and available to buy. But, I would not suggest attempting to stake your claim to anyone else's land...you might not like trying to defend it when the owner comes to call!

My suggestion, run for public office. Yes, one person can and does make a difference. Why run from your country, why not work to improve it. We all have the right to gripe, and we all have the right to work to impove our county. Find the one area that you are most opposed to and began working on that in your own little corner of the planet.

First of all, the gay country would have to be in a warmer climate. The flag could be something nice, maybe Red White & Blue but different from the American flag. National Anthem: Xanadu National Costumer? T-shirt & Jeans. No glitter allowed.

I heard that there is a country in the North Sea (in the manner of an oil rig as you have spoken) that is currently for sale. It has its own currency and autonomy.

It's called Sealand...check it out...

If you do...let me know. I might want to immigrate. And, after the next Presidential election, they're may be a whole lot of people looking for a new country.

It is possible, but if you become a threat to any country they will invade you.
