You need to contact a provider in your area that has DSL. Typically they have new customer deals and will give you the equipment for free or low cost.

LOL wow some misinformation on a few above posts..

If you are in an ATT phone area try going to http://att.com
Follow the links for residental and you can put in your phone number and have it see if DSL is provided you can even order online.
This is assuming you are in an ATT area.. contact your local phone company otherwise.

The DSL signal has to be put on the phone line, you cant just plug in stuff and have it work. So yes you have to order it and have them put that signal on your phone line.

You can typically order DSL service from your local phone company.

You can also check with this website to see who provides service in your area.

Most providers will provide you a DSL modem that you can plug in directly to your computer. You can purchase a wireless router and plug your modem into it to share the internet connection with several wired and wireless devices.

Call your phone company or internet provider and see if they offer DSL service. If so, they will give you all the hardware that you need.

Get the kit from the ISP. It comes with a cd that will step you through installation. If you're lucky. If you're not, it will screw up and you'll spend several hours having a lovely conversation with someone in New Delhi.

Buy a modem, connect it to the line and computer.

Then imput login details to your ISP.

IP address and DNS should automatically become generated and added.

Or buy a router if you wish to also have wireless access.
