I would carefully explain to them that, for obvious reasons, I will be unable to babysit for them ever again.

Well if I were in a position to watch them for two days, I most likely would. BUT I also have a life and as such If I had to go out and could NOT take the kids with me then I most likely would file a police report at the very least. I would avoid contacting family services or DSS as I have NO faith in them what so ever. And I would lay into the mother when she got back BIG TIME!

To be neighborly I would say: $30 from 5pm until parents come home. To be professional, I would say $40-$50 for 3-4 hours. But, if the kids are a handful, then I would charge more than $30. If they are good and quiet then $25-$30 should be good every time.

Find out what took so long, which would probably be some kind of bullshit excuse. If they had gone to jail, they could have phoned you or had whoever they called phone you to let you know what happened and that they are in jail and they could have had someone pick up the kids possibly. I think this would be a case of child neglect or abandonment on their part, because they were probably out not giving a shitt. So, it would be up to you to call child services or let the kids live a life of neglect or abandonment. And then I would give them a piece of my mind.

My stepson used to do this all the time and it made me nuts. Not because I don't love the girls but because I have to work for a living and it disrupted my plans. I told him that if he ever did that to me agian I would call child protective services and he could explain to them why he left his kids w/me for days w/no clean clothes etc. It didn't happen again. Yeah, he was mad but since I was the only babysitter he trusted, he got over it. I knew he was out drinking/drugging so I didn't feel a bit bad.

That's happened to me except for it was 6 months until she came back. I tried to get her family to take the baby but they wouldn't. I had to call child services and it really sucked because this worman I was babysitting for was my best friend. It ended up that she lost her kid for good. Needless to say, we weren't friends anymore after that either. At least the baby ended up in a good home and was well taken care of.

If it was a close friend, no problem. I would chew their butt tho.
If it was some person that just asked us, after 18 hours I call child welfare and turn them over.

That is so sad for the kids. but you should have called police, so they can make sure that the kids are ok when at home.

The law would be involved unless they had a good reason to abandon their kids.
