My sister and I are travelling to Florida in March with my two kids, any advice on do's and don'ts would be appreciated. Do you take all your money in dollars or use travelers cheques? Where's best to avoid?

I'm not sure where in Florida you will be going, but in general I think you should be fine. My sister went all the time on her own, or with her friends and this was all younger girls, they never had a problem. Here are a few tips:

Stay in well populated places. Don't wander into places where you will be the only ones, stay where there will be people around. Especially important when it is dark or something may be preventing you from seeing what is around.

Avoid wearing any jewelry or any other objects that may put up a flag for someone to rob you. Also, costume jewlery or anything you aren't very attached to is a good idea, in case something would happen where it is misplaced or lost.

Try to stick with your whole party as much as you can. Splitting up and going into smaller groups is one way to get into some trouble, especially if you have younger kids. If you do split up, be sure to have some form of contact. Walkie talkies will work, but a cell phone is better because you are more likely to be able to contact the other party.

For the kids, if they are younger, give them a card or something that they can wear around their neck or something like that. Put their name on it as well as how someone can contact you. The biggest thing to remember here is to make it so that not everyone can see it. There have been a lot of cases where people do this thinking they are keeping their children safe, but a dangerous person could use it against. For example, they could go up to your child (say the name is John) and say something like "John, my name is Tom, I just talked to your mommy and she asked me to help you find her" or something along those lines. When a young kid heres that someone knows their name, they can feel more comfortable.

Be sure that the children know what to do if you would get seperated or how to contact you. Also, wherever you go, have a place where you will meet in case you do get lost and make sure the kids can remember it.

For purses, be sure to wear them across your body, this makes it harder for someone to take it. Camera bags are a big target as well, so something that doesn't look so much like a camera bag is a good idea. If you use a camera bag, put it across your chest. There are many purses available that are made specifically for traveling, might be worth checking out.

If you plan to take a backpack, be very careful. Only put things in there that aren't important, snacks or toys for example. Since it will be on your back and you may be in a crowded area, it will be easier for someone to take things out of the bag. When you are in crowds you will get hit from all directions, so you may not notice it. So don't put any money, purses, etc. in there.

Travelers checks are a good idea to have, but not really necessary. It is just a good extra precaution. If you keep your bags protected you should be fine. Credit cards are a good idea as well, just be sure to have any info you may need in case they get stolen so you can cancel the card immediately.

You should be fine, but taking some extra precautions never hurts.

Have a great time!

I have been to Florida a few times, mostly just me and my sister and we have never had any problems.

The tourist area is very safe and has a safe feeling about it. Even public transport is fine and have never experienced anything remotely dodgy.

However saying that we always take a certain amount or precautions and they are:-

Don't wear flashy or expensive looking jewellery.
Use travellers cheques - nearly everywhere accepts them as cash.
Only carry enough money to last you the day - leave the rest in the hotel safe.
Take a photocopy of your passport - leave the original in the safe.
Donn't carry a handbag - they just get in the way, a rucksack is far better and you can stick your camera in it.

That's about it, just have fun and don't worry cause you will be fine.

I have lived in Orlando my whole life and it is very safe. I worked in tourist attractions for years too and I never heard of anyone getting robbed or hurt.

I recommend you stay somewhere either on Disney property(if you are going to Disney for a few days) or on International Drive(its cheaper and its where Sea World, Universal and tons of other attractions are located plus its only about 10 minutes from Disney).

You probably won't be leaving the "tourist area" anyways so don't be worried. Orlando is set-up to cater to families and children so you guys will have a lot of fun.

As far as money, I don't see a problem with cash, robberies arent common, but everywhere excepts travelers checks so those are good in case you loose them, they can be replaced.

Don't worry, you guys will have a blast!

Florida felt very safe. We went to the Florida mall on the bus one day and saw a lot more of the real Orlando but even then we never felt unsafe.

Stick around Disney and the I-Drive, go about your business as you would in any city and you will be fine.

I went alone with my kids and am going again, make sure when you split up that each group has a cell phone. For smaller kids who may wonder off you may want to put their names or your cell phone number somewhere on their shoes or clothes. I know that there are tags made for this but i have no idea where to buy them. Other than than id just use common sense. I'm sure travelers checks and debit cards are safer than cash. We had no problems at all, I am sure it will be just fine, so relax and enjoy your trip.

Like this: "Sweetheart, I in basic terms had a threesome with your mom and Grandma" this could sufficiently marvel her. then you you're able to say "in basic terms kidding honey, what kind of a guy do you think of i'm....! Harrumph!!! with the help of how I do have a spouse and a pair of youngsters". She'll be so relieved which you probably did no longer have a bone consultation together with her mom and grammy, each and everything would be forgiven. desire this helped.

don't walk around with an envelope full of cash! some lady did this and dropped it right in front of my mother and i at the entrance to the magic kingdom. she didn't even notice she lost it! we had to chase her down cuz she was walking so fast (probably going for a speed pass like us). that thing must've had 1000 bucks in it! but as you can see, we were honest people and i'd like to think everybody else going would do the same thing.
