I was driving my car and everything was fine and the security light came on for about 45 seconds then went off. didnt think much of it but when i got off work later my car wouldnt start. It would go try and the lights and radio would start but when i turned the key all the way nothing happened. (It was also close to 0 degrees last night, if the weather would make a difference in anything) But after i took out my key my "Security" light stayed on for about five minutes. Whats wrong with my piece of crap camaro??

does your key have a little black and silver "chip" in it? if so, the system that reads that chip to keep someone from just jamming a screwdriver in the ignition and stealing your car is messed up. you can either pay a bunch of mooney at the dealership to get a new system installed, and get a new key, or bypass the system entirely. if you bypass it, you have to trace the wires that go up to the ignition (there should be two small wires next to two larger wires, you want the small wires. do some checking to make sure which ones they are before you cut them though. a stero/alarm installation shop should be able to help you out there) cut both of the wires once you know for sure which they are. then get a multimeter and put it on the ohm scale (it looks like an upside-down cap'n crunch hat). read that value and go to a radio shack and pick up some resistors of that value. you might take the meter with you too the store and somebody can help you out to pick the right ones. a pack of 5 is less that a buck. bridge the resistor between the two wires and it should start after that. it will also start with any key, though, so you are putting yourself at slightly more risk that way. if your car doesnt have that little chip, disregard everything i just said and let somebody else help you.

im sorry but GM is not the only one with problems with the security system

if you dont like the car then maybe you should sell it and get another carin wihhc will most likely have the same problem at some point in time

anyways if the light is still on or blinking then try leaving the igntion turned on for 10 minutes and see that the light goes out

this will reset it and get it out of theft mode so that it will not shut off the fuel system- IE not run

if not then if not the it may have a bad ignition key switch or bad IPC or wherever the security module is located

i just went through this security issue on a car not too long ago, we tried a new switch but it wasnt that, i had to remove the IPC(instrument panel cluster) and send it to an electronics place in VA to have it repaired,

and that did it, now it runs has no issues at all anymore

these newer vehicles are all a gamble and commonly have security system issues

good luck

Your ignition lock cylinder wire is broken at the lock cylinder. It will need a new lock cylinder and keys to fit the new cylinder.
