That is because at an early age children are taught that the big yellow thing in the sky is the sun and at night the stars come out. I don't think I ever had a class in school that ever taught that the sun is a star. I just learned it on my own.

BTW. 12.3% believe that the moon is green cheese and .23% believe that the Earth is flat. 10% say we never went to the moon. 2.3% say the Civil War never happened.

You failed to provide your sources.

I hope you don't believe everything you read. I once read in a magazine that a 98 year old woman gave birth to a three headed mule, just because it's in print doesn't make it true. On the other hand though, you may be right. Schools here in America focus more on sports and very rarely provide it's students with a proper education. If you actually want to learn anything one has to do it on their own time, it's a sad but true fact about American schools.

Have a nice weekend.

Did you know that 65% of all statistics are made up ?

How was that percentage found? Did someone really ask every single American if they knew that the sun is a star? No one asked me, so I wasn't in on that percentage. Neither was anyone in my family or my friends.

What is the point of your question any how?

Scary thought. And fairly unbelievable. I would have guessed at least 90% of adults would get that right. Wonder how the test group was chosen.
................................I hope it was a group of droupouts?

But there are a lot of surprises when 5th grade questions are asked of adults arent there.

I am surprised THAT many knew! Not that knowing that is good or bad, but its amazing how uneducated the American population tends to be.
