I am a senior in a college with a current GPA of 3.3 . My major is geography but I am also taking the required pre-med curriculum. I basically have a low B average in my pre-med classes and a low A average in my geog. classes. I have done extensive amounts of community service as well as some volunteering and job shadowing in the E.R. Wondering if I had a shot at getting into med. school.

It's on the low side, so your MCAT score is going to be pretty critical. I'd do more than just volunteering though. You need to do stuff to stand out. Just volunteering isn't worth much. That's the bare minimum.

The community service is intriguing. It's just ok if you were a worker bee and helped out on some projects. It's another if you organized annual food drives, etc.

There is always a chance, however it really depends on two factors for you. Before you can even get an interview you need to make sure that you do extremely well in the pre-requisite science courses needed for admission. The second is getting a good MCAT score. These two things prove (along with your volunteer work) that you have the intelligence to complete medical study. Work hard in the sciences because because you will have both an overall GPA reported to the professional schools as well as a Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics GPA. Hope this helps and best of luck. Remember these factors only get you the interview....the interview is what truly gets you into medical school.

The information your giving is only a little bit of the stuff they look at for med school admissions, but it seems like that might be a viable option. Though for something as major as this, don't rely on yahoo answers, or this answer, too much.
