Only the few hockey fans in Winnipeg. The NHL has too many teams at this point and there are bigger markets to go after than Winnipeg if a team is going to move.

The can definately support a team, the city has a population of around 600,000 CANDADIANS which automatically makes most of them hockey fans. Pittsburghs population is only 300,000 and they have no problem supporting a team (except for the state government and its difficulty reaching an arena deal).

The only real question is where the team would come from. Since i refuse to admit that the Pens will leave... ever. My guess will be that there will eventually be a 2 to 4 team expansion. With new teams in Winnipeg, Kansas City, Las Vegas. Not sure where the 4th team would go, possibly Houston. But this will probably be years down the line.

I do... i happened to be in winnipeg when the city raised the money to try and keep the jets....and bettman screwed them. the penguins are going to move...sorry to those who are pens fans...unfortunately the rumor is that they are not moving to winnipeg, but most likely las vegas. However anyone who followed the all-star week press conferences may have heard the possibility of 2 expansion teams and that winnipeg is possible to be one of them.
The city can afford the team i think and possibly the province as well in partial, the city owns the blue bombers, but i am not sure who owns the moose. They sell out a lot of games for the moose, however my only suggestion would be they get better seats in there (there not bad, but they look like i could buy them at canadian tire), and the concourse is awesome, such an open atmosphere and even greater acoustics (15,000 fans might sound like 25, 000)

But yeah...Winnipeg more than deserves a team again

Rank Urban Area Population in 2001
1 Toronto, Ontario 4,366,508
2 Montreal, Quebec 3,215,665
3 Vancouver, British Columbia 1,829,854
4 Calgary, Alberta 879,277
5 Ottawa - Hull, Ontario/Quebec 827,854
6 Edmonton, Alberta 782,101
7 Quebec City, Quebec 635,184
8 Winnipeg, Manitoba 626,685
9 Hamilton, Ontario 618,820

Just as well as Calgary, Ottawa, and Edmonton.

Eventually it will be NORTH and SOUTH conferences with quebec and winnipeg..32 teams
16 each

I support this and im from Dallas

The NHL should move the Columbus Blue Jackets or the Florida Panthers to Winnipeg and give that city it's team back. Florida and Columbus are bad cities for different reasons. The Jackets are just a horrible team that no one wants to watch, and the state of Florida already has the Lightning, who are actually decent.

Well, as much as I want to see the Jets return, they won't unless another team moves there. Here are the problems. One, Bettman has overexpanded the league to the point where there is too much saturation. Two, I doubt Winnipeg could support a team. Three, it would not keep the leauges even, unless of course you start another team to keep both sides balanced. Plus, under the current barganing agreements, I don't know how drafting players for the new team would work (especially considering there are a few contracts out there that are worth a majorly pretty penny.)

Winnipeg was a great hockey market for the Jets way back when. The owners wanted to move the team south because they thought there was more financial gain. The fans loved that team, and I believe they constantly sell out for the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

Can Winnipeg support a team in the $48 million cap (which its suppose to be next year) era? I wouldnt say expansion, but hell, move 1 of the teams in Florida up there if they can support the finances..

Winnipeg could never support an NHL team.

Without a doubt they should. What a shame to have teams in places where the game is not understood or appreciated. Bettmen wants to change the rules to appeal to these so-called fans but in the real world, they don't deserve to have the game.
I say, move teams from Florida, Tampa, Nashville before they go bankrupt and look at Winnipeg, Hamilton, possibly Seattle...
