You know what they say about your instincts? First off, lets work on creating a realistic situation. No one goes to jail for stealing a pizza much less life in prison. Second of all, no lawyer in his right mind plays with his phone in front of a judge during court. Perhaps next time you should say that court is in recess and you're having some difficulty thinking of a good defense for someone who has done a crime worthy of life in prison. You could go on to embellish it with the pros and cons about a life in prison, asking the public at the same time what they feel about life in prison for a person you are not only defending--but believe to be beyond guilty. That should inspire some thought. Then again, perhaps it isn't thought you are looking for...
P.S.
What was the name of your law firm? Just in case, I steal a pizza, you can't be too careful these days.

You feel like a bad lawyer - let me tell you and you'll have NO DOUBT: You are a bad lawyer. If you have to text out on your Blackberry for what to say in court - you're a bad lawyer. They just gave you your law degree?? No doubt you wouldn't be MY lawyer - but then again - you probably aren't an attorney.
