i have already pulled it and did not find anything in it to prevent it from flushing and didn't find anything. i just can't figure it out. at first i thought my kids had stuck something in it but i didn't find anything in it when i pulled it and i even ran a wire thru it. so how can i find out what is causing the problem? sometimes i can get it to flush by plunging it but sometimes it won't. what can i do to fix it?

has nothing to do with the CHAIN , whata lame. if you have made sure the toilet dosent have any residual scum all the way through the toilet itself , (make sure by feeling with you hands, seriously. pull it then check again)from the bowl to the wax ring.make sure too that your ring is set right. if any protrudes into the flow it will be a problem. plummers have an endoscope like camera that they can peer into yous pipes. if nothing seems to be blocking then you might try getting a new toilet.

There could be roots in the line farther down that cause backups. Call a reputable sewer company near you and ask if they will give estimates. Then, once the line is cleaned out, try to use Angel Soft tissue-my plumber told me it is the best for plumbing and I haven't had a service call since I began using it. Also, sometimes I will flush it with nothing in it just to move some water through.

If you rent, call the maintainence, If you own the home, you might consider a device called a plumbers snake. You can buy them at Walmart. Basicly it is a coiled wire with a crank on it. It sounds like you either have flushed something you shouldnt have or you have tree roots invading the sewer line. If the Walmart snake does not do the trick, It is probable tree roots and time to call a plumber.

Have you checked the sewer line connected to the toilet. Have a service tech come out and snake the line.

Your chain for the stopper is probably too long. Or, you need someone to come and snake whatever is clogging it. And, tell the kids to stop using a whole roll to wipe themselves.
