Once he's on the antibiotic, he should start to perk up and the skin irritation will start to improve in a few days. However, if he's not eating or drinking b/c the impetigo is making him feel sick, then be most concerned about the fluid intake. He needs to me at least sipping on water or pedialyte every 20-30 min. If he isn't urinating, or his skin doesn't bounce back when you pinch it, then take him back to the Dr immediately.....those are signs of dehydration. Also the antibiotic can make him feel nauseated too and maybe have diarrhea. I've never heard of impetigo causing the kid to not want to eat or drink...it's mostly a topical, skin problem. But that doesn't mean it cannot happen. If his skin and fluid intake doesn't improve in 2-3 days, cal the Dr. Good luck!

impetigo should not affect his appetite, but the medicine might. dont really focus on how much he is intaking, just make sure that he is having at least 5-7 wet diapers a day, that tells if he is hydrated or not. if he is not having any wet diapers you need to get him back into the doctor asap. in the future you should use antibacterial soap to clean him, that will prevent him from getting impetigo again.

Impetigo is a highly contagious skin condition, though i didnt realise it affected feeding etc.My kids had impetigo a couple of times and it was a nightmare, it spreads like wildfire, especially if you scratch it.Try and keep the area covered up,and use Fucidin antibiotic cream, and wash sheets and clothes daily.

It's a very contagious condition and can be quite painful for him. No wonder he is off his food. Just get plenty of fluids into him what ever way you can. My health visitor used to get me to make up those sugar-free jellies, and let him have as much as he wants.
As he is on antibiotics, his appetite won't be the best anyway. Just be patient with him; offer him little titbits rather than meals; and when the antibiotic is finished, try and get a probiotic yoghurt a day into him.

if he has sores around his mouth it probably hurts when he tries to eat or drink, a couple of days of the antibiotics and you should see a vast improvement in his appetite, if he will not drink a bottle, how about trying to give him an ice lolly to get fluids into him that way, hope he gets better soon

Highly infectious, i no it sounds horrible but keep towels and bedding and clothes all to him, dont you use anything of it will spread so fast!! it should clear up when antibiotics are finished. and let him drink as much as he needs, it may help to flush it out of his system.x
