At my school in Missouri, the coordinator is a teacher who teaches 1/2 time (with as many on her caseload as the other teachers) and monitors the IEP time lines, liaisons with parents (mostly the more difficult ones), schedules Sped classes for every IEP student in our huge school, does most of our testing and works with in-coming students and transitions out-going students with the other 1/2 of her time. I wouldn't take her job for any amount of money. The poor woman works 60 hours a week for not a whole lot more than I make as a lowly sped teacher.

Usually it is the teacher with repsonsibility for co-ordinating education for special needs students in a school. They can be teachers with additional reposnsibility (as in my son's school where they have very few sn kids- 4, and 2 of them mine!0, or a specialist who focuses on that alone, or some kind of mid way.

This is a person who assesses what the needs are for learning or working. They will see what accommodations are necessary and make arrangements for them so it is a positive environment conducive to learning or working. They are usually affiliated with a school system or local Vocational Rehabilitation office.
