There have been not only a number of ships that have perriled in the area but also a number of aircrafts. They cannot find the reasoning behind this and therefor it is notorious for the simple fact that the questions regarding it have never been answered.

It's an area that, according to all the authors making big bucks selling books about it, is mysterious and dangerous where ships frequently disappear for no reason at all. In point of fact, the ocean is big and mysterious: if you arbitrarily draw a triangle between three points anywhere on a map of the ocean, you will find that almost as many ships have disappeared there as have disappeared in the so-called Bermuda Triangle. Ships have a way of sinking...and when there are no survivors, it's "mysterious." But there is NO statistical significance to the number of ships that have disappeared and/or sunk in the Bermuda Triangle. Mainly, the big deal about the Bermuda Triangle is that it made author, Charles Berliotz, filthy rich.

Ships have a tendancy to sink in the Bermuda Triangle. Recent studies have shown that the water in this area is filled with a type of underwater plant that excretes a chemical that makes the water not as bouyant as the rest of the ocean, so ships sink more easily.

Where have you been? There are more books, television shows and movies, to give you some idea on this, than can be listed. Because of the higher number of unusual and or mysterious mishaps in that local it's become notorious, and so far no rational nor concrete answer has been discovered to explain it all.
