What is effacement?
Effacement is the process by which the cervix prepares for delivery. After the baby has engaged in the pelvis, it gradually drops closer to the cervix; the cervix gradually softens, shortens and becomes thinner. You may hear phrases like "ripens," or "cervical thinning" which refer to effacement.
How is effacement measured?
Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your health care provider may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner.

effacement is when you cervix softens and thins out 0% is not at all and 100% is paper thin. I'm 80%.
engagment is when your baby fully drops into the pelvis.
stations are like ok -4 is baby turned floating till 0 is engaged and +4 is the baby being birthed. They are measured in cm. I'm -1.

effaced refers to the thickness of your cervix. Your cervix thins out in order to give birth. You have to be 100% effaced before you deliver. So, if the doctor says you are effaced, that means your cervix is thin and ready.

Effacement is the process of your cervix thinning and softening for the birth. It not only has to open (dilate) but has to become thinner.

First of all, if this applies to you and your situation, you should be asking a doctor when you don't understand a term, not a public answer forum! Jeez!!! The answers are found at the site listed below.
