They tell me I can get anywhere from 13 to $30,000 and all I have to do is sign some medical releases. I know for a fact that the drug has had a problem with this side effec that wasn't known when it was released. Is it worth getting involved in, has any one else been in a class action suit?

Most of the time there's no harm in joining in the class action, but be aware that your medical records will be in the court documents (and therefore public) if you sign the release. The reality is that they likely will never be seen by anyone outside of the lawyers in the case, but technically they could be seen by anyone. It may be that the names will be concealed in the public documents, since they are really irrelevant to the case (until you get paid).
Most class actions settle, and you may be entitled to a meager sum depending on whether you actually had any injuries relating to the drug. If you did suffer side effects, there is probably no harm in signing on to the class action. You won't have to go to court unless you are a major player in the case (many significant injuries; direct contact with the drug company on the issues, etc.) These mass mailings go out all the time, and often times you will never see a dime, but if you are entitled to a share, you don't have to do anything but sign the releases to get it.

Sure, why not. You have nothing to lose. Read the documents. There are 2 types of class action suits.

1 Opt in - You need to sign forms to make sure you're included. Otherwise, you're not part of the suit and you can pursue a separate claim on your own.

2. Opt out - You're automatically assumed to be part of the act unless you tell them that you don't want to be.

Sounds like you're in an Opt In situation. I say go for it. $13 is quick lunch and $30k could be a new car.
