The Bush war plan did not fail. The compromised war plan that the two parties came up with is what failed. This is one situation where having two parties in our government has led us to a problem.
Had we done things the way conservatives wanted...we would've sent more troops in the beginning and we might have been more successful.
Had we done things the way liberals wanted...we wouldn't have gone to war and possibly very little would have changed.
Why will the plan work this time? It might not. The truth is we do need more troops to help bring about peace. Peace? With more troops? Seem too aggressive? Sometimes the best way to get someone to give up their fight is to overwhelm them with your intimidating factors. George Washington squashed the Whiskey Rebellion of a couple hundred farmers without anyone getting injured or killed. How? He sent the entire U.S. Army...something around 10,000 troops to handle a couple hundred farmers. The farmers saw what they were up against and turned around and went home. Maybe the same concept will work here. If we could send far more troops than are needed...then maybe most of the militants or terrorists or whatever you care to call them will be overwhelmed, turn around, and go home. This is probably too simplified of an answer...as there really is no simple answer when it comes to war or peace, but I do think there is a good basis and precedent for Bush's solution and though it is more complicated than how I've made it...it just might work.

Actually it hasn't, not that you'd know as your Kos-masters haven't told you the facts, but it has had quite a number of successes, left untold by the Big Liberal Media.
The problem is the dynamic changed after the Sunnis bombed the Gold Mosque, one of the holiest Shiite sites. That caused an escalation in the sectarian violence, which necessitated a change in tactics. Golly, just like ever other war we've been in, things change and then we adapt to the change.
But we are far from having failed, and success is still quite attainable, as long as the craven Democrats don't unilaterally surrender. It might be nice if they supported the troops (they DON'T) by supporting the mission, and by not supporting their enemies.

it was a poor plan to start. we went in like that romans use to fight, with minimal numbers. its easier to completely destroy a country, the people and buildings and so forth. but trying to liberate a nation is alot harder. with this surge, hopefully with more numbers, this war can be done quicker......pulling out is stupid. if we don't do the job right the first time. we will be fighting long after this. this will also open our allies in the middle east to attack, which then leads to the question, whose gonna protect them.....us. its better to get the job done right, then later when they start attacking us on our own soil.....

This is actually a good question.
If you support the president's war right now please answer:
Why will we succeed now when we have failed up to this point.
Also, if you're for the troop surge, why would bringing troop levels to the same point they were in late 2005 make any difference right now?

It won't. But for some reason, neocons are more concerned with not being labeled as "flip-floppers" than they are with whether or not the "plan" is working. They're so concerned with making sure they stick to their guns that they don't notice those guns are empty.
