When I took my valve springs out of my engine (Nissan 240sx engine--> KA24de) I didn't notice any spring seats. So now that I'm reassembling the head I'm looking in the FSM and it's saying that there are springs seats. What do I do? Can I put it all back together w/o spring seats? thanks

If the manual indicates there should be seats, get the part number and order some.

I'd check further in a Nissan shop manual, Chiltons or Motors manuals available in any public library. Have your valve springs checked at an automotive machine or engine building shop. They'll check for installed height pressure and total cam open pressure. In most case they'll add hardened spring seats of varying thicknesses to raise pressures to specifications. You may need new springs, I'd replace them and add the hardened spring seats to get within spec. New springs ar ridiculously cheap. Your going to all this trouble to good job. Go for the best high tech valve springs you can lay your hands on.

If there are no seats for the spring to sit on the springs will eat into the soft aluminum.
Any automotive machine shop can supply you with some generic .030 shims that will work as seats.
Take the head with you as there are many sizes.
