I agree with you, I didnt like him when he was alive, and even less now. He was NOT a musical genius, he just needed a shower.

I agree with your opinion on "great", however Cobain was a good song writer. At the time that Nirvana surfaced pop music was smothered with crappy hair bands and bad R&B "artists" that had nothing to say really.
It was kind of refreshing to see someone writing music that had an edge, had a little angst and had a little substance - music that was more like real life if you will.
I will agree that Cobain was no Dylan or Clapton - but he was better than Warrant or Bel Biv Devoe.
And the man opened a door for alot of what you hear today that isn't total cookie-cutter cheese rock.
EDIT: Nighthawk is a huge Justin Timberlake fan and rarely strays from his mom's basement - what a bone head thing to say dude!

he's more desirable athletic than the different professional wrestler, he proves this by technique of his newbie historic past. The conditioning and wrestling practise he received as an newbie is more desirable sensible than any modern wrestler. He replaced into global champ in ninety 5 and gold medal 96. Kurt cuts magnificent promos, he's thrilling and he may help in putting over youthful wrestlers. Kurt has received almost each and every important call in the WWF/E and held the TNA global call 3 situations. i imagine Kurt has made more desirable of an impact on professional wrestling than Hogan and Rock. for this reason Kurt perspective is the finest perfect.

so you don't think clapton, eddie, walsh, or "keef" had substance abuse issues? ed is a raging alcoholic and keef has been clinically dead for at least 15 years. c'mon man nirvana changed everything on the rock music landscape, and if you asked any of the bands that you mentioned, they would agree. I know that he wasn't a guitar god ( you must be a guitar guy... so am i...), but Kurt touched a nerve, one that a lot of people shared at the time, and opened the door for pearl jam, soundgarden, alice in chains... a new genre... could you do that? i'm not a big fan of self pity, and it took me years to realize that he is important, just because he made people listen.... you did...
and by the way eddie hasn't done anything signifigant in almost 20 years because he is a drunken *** with a guitar .............. at least kurt burned out instead of fading away.........

Cobain led the march of the "Seattle Grunge" sound into mainstream music--something that the new ("generation X") guard of music fans embraced. To them, Cobain was the Beetoven of alternative grunge. And yes I agree: the only thing Cobain needed was a shower.....he was nothing special at all.
Cobain's suicide drug laced death was to these alternative rock fans a crushing tragedy---one that began an evolving life of its own, for to this day, alternative rock fans still pay homage tributes to Kurt Cobain.

Well everyone has different music tastes. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean other people shouldn't. He created a whole new type of music in the 1990s and just happened to die a mysterious, speculative death. Give the guy a break.

Kurt was more than just "some drugged up punk with a guitar" i think he was great because of the things he stood for, and no he didnt think that drugs were cool, he knew he was stupid for taking them, in his own words "Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self respect and everything that goes along with your self esteem" the reason i look up to him is because he went against typical society, he expressed his feelings, and taught us to empathize with people and to attempt to accept people before we seclude them, and to be yourself, he was the one who said the quote "I'd rather you hate me for who i am than love me for who i'm not"

I agree with you. I can appreciate Nirvana's music and I LOVE Dave Grohl but I guess I missed out on all the Kurt hype.

Music is subjective, just like any art form. What is great to one person is noise to someone else- the people you mentioned might be 'great' to you, but someone else might consider them not great at all. Your 'question' is more or less just a statement of opinion.

Some people actually like his alternative sound.
I don't, it's too depressing to listen to his moaning & whining all the time, but I used to listen to Nirvana all the time.
I think the people who 'look up' to him are just trying to sound cool, because if you haven't noticed, it's all kids who were born in '92 who supposedly 'look up' to him, and Nirvana was most famous in the 80's. Most of them didn't even know who Kurt Cobain was until they were in 6th grade & after he passed...
