There are scales that go to 2000 degrees C. It is the thermometer that you need to find. There are metal thermometers that go that high.

The folks that do it in industry use infrared. You can get something that looks like a pistol with a readout on the back. Point it at what you want to measure and back comes the reading. No contact. Just the IR. Common device. If you have more interest, visit a company named Omega on the web. and old fashin is
envery material needs specific amount of enery to melt it and every fuel has a specefic amount of energy released when its burned so if u know how much fule u burn to melt a metal u can find out its melting temperature
