I always wait until after the first trimester. Make sure that if you do it yourself you have adequate ventilation and I always take a fan in the bathroom and point it facing out too.

Is it safe to dye my hair while pregnant?
There are conflicting reports about the safety of hair dye during pregnancy: Several studies found no ill effects on pregnant rodents given 100 times the typical human dose of these products, whereas British researchers reported chromosome damage among women who dyed their hair. Although this study was not conducted on pregnant women, this finding suggests that there may be some risk to coloring your hair while pregnant.

As a precaution, some physicians advise you to avoid hair color until after your first trimester (the period when your baby's vital organs, head, body and limbs form). Colorants made from vegetable dyes such as henna are preferable to the chemical dyes used in permanent and semi-permanent formulas. Recent studies indicate that hair dyes contain relatively high levels of bio-available lead acetate that can be harmful to the fetus, particularly the nervous system and brain. Check the product label and avoid lead based hair products.

There is no proven facts that substantiate that hair dying will hurt your baby. However because you are out of your 1st trimester and do it in a well ventilated area then go ahead. Just remember this is your decision. It's no different then a doctor telling you it's okay to take Tylenol for a cold, all OTC medication is category c..Which means it hasn't been proven one way or the other.

It is safe. I have heard urban myths about red hair dye being unsafe. I have a professional hairdresser in the family she says that its untrue. She also dyed my hair while I was pregnant and my daughter is fine in fact she is destroying the remote right now.

I researched this a lot actually. There is NO evidence that it hurts the baby, and there is NO evidence that it doesnt. Your doctor will suggest you at least wait until after your first trimester to dye your hair.

As far as I know, I think it is safe to dye your hair while pregnant, as long as you check with your doctor. My best friend is 38 weeks pregnant, and dyed her hair in her first trimester and her baby is healthy. Just check with your doctor, I have always heard of people getting their hair while they were pregnant. I know people who have permed their hair while they were pregnant, and their children were very healthy.

no you should not dye your hair because you will inhale the chemicals in the dye. then it will go to your baby. just wait till the baby comes before you dye it again. i know i know..you think you will look bad...think of all the celebs who had to wait. don't worry about your looks..worry about your baby. congrats...and good luck
