The Pill is one of the most reliable forms of birth control. They do not help with diseases, though. As you are getting married, I'm assuming you are just concerned about contraception. Talk to your OB/GYN about how to ensure the highest efficacy. Back when I was on them, you had to take them for about a month while using another form of birth control because their effectiveness had to be given time. You also needed to take them at THE SAME TIME every SINGLE day. If you missed one, you needed to use a supporting form of birth control while fertile for that month. There are medications/drugs that can minimize and even remove the pill's ability to prevent conception. Make sure your doctor gives up a list so you can avoid them. Also, there are some rare risk factors for women on the pill. Discuss these with your doctor as well. There are many forms of B/C out there. Pills, shots, devices, patches (I think there is patch now, isn't there?) I would review them all with a doctor who knows your health history and who will take the time to understand your habits. Are you likely to forget taking the pill at the same time every day? Then it's NOT for you. Do you have history that increases your risks while on the pill such as are you smoking? It's NOT for you... Alternatively, is there a chance you may not be able to take the hormones in the pill? Then the SHOT is NOT for you. Do you get frequent UTI's, then implantable devices are NOT for you. See how individual this choice must be? So- there is much to consider and a doctor is your safest bet for getting all of the best information as it pertains to you. Yes, I do know about 4 women who have had children while taking birth control pills. Several more women who got pregnant using only condoms... Keep in mind that the ONLY 100% effective way to not get pregnant is of course, to not have sex. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! =)

Any drug you put in your system can have a side affect. Birth control pills can cause a temporary sterilization. When you do decide you are ready to have a baby be very patient. It can take a while for your fertility to return. On the other side scientifically speaking women who have used the pill hve a lesser chance of deveploing uterine and/ or ovarian cancer.

If clearing your acne is a side effect, great! However, if you are not sexually active why not see a dermatologist and get his opinion on treatment. There are treatments that are safe and will not affect blood pressure or hormone levels, as some birth control does.

birth control pills can have many good and bad side effects but causing sterilization is not one of them. As previous people have said millions of women use the pill. You should definitely talk to you doctor about going on the pill. They can help cramps, acne, PMS symptoms, and lots of other stuff. They do increase your risk of stroke though it is rare. As I said, talk to you doctor about it.

You should read up on birth control pills on http://www.plannedparenthood.com or also http://webmd.com. The have alot of information, but for the most part I think that it's very rare that oral contraceptives damage your reproductive organs. Good luck.

regular ol birth control pills???? no, of course not. they are used to protect you from pregnancy. they dont do anything to ruin your uterus, ovaries or anything like that. if they did, millions of women in this country would never have babies. birth control is pretty darn harmless, besides the little side effects (weight gain, etc.)
