The health service isn't there to lecture us about how we should lead our lives. What a moralising attitude they have. Such a policy could be extended into infinity. Sports injuries (sorry self inflicted) Over 65 (sorry not worth treating you) You have the wrong genes(sorry not allowed to breed) Stressful job ( sorry didn't go on the stress reduction course) Accident in the home (sorry self inflicted) Ride a bike to work (sorry, you didn't wear a helmet) Motoring accident (was it your fault) What are your political views ( oh dear your not left wing) so on and so forth.

If people who smoke, drink alcohol, like eating, are not given a chance to recover, then they will never have a chance to improve themselves. May I ask what it is acceptable to die from? The criteria used for determining whether you are overweight is very stringent. If you are a six foot male and weigh forteen stone you will be considered overweight, irrespective of the muscle element.

It is yet another means for this left wing nannying government to try and control us.

As humans, we are not machines, we have weaknesses, and life can be damn hard. So, I for one, don't want lecturing about how I should lead my life. I think that I will become a hypochondriac, that will teach them.

Not wishing to be sexist, but it is an unfortunate fact, that considerably more of the NHS budget is spent on women than men. So, sorry girls, Mrs Hewitt hasn't the money.

Mrs Hewitt might not qualify for sectioning, on the grounds that it would be impossible for her to recover, and so, would be a waste of NHS funds.

Well that's the way things are going in this country it's mad and i don't want to live here anymore...smokers pay more tax than most people and if it's so bad for us and a big burden on the nhs then why not just ban it full stop..and over weight people, just a government strategy to make people loose weight after all the fuss about us all eating junk..
Treatment at hospitals should be free to those who cannot afford to pay and those who can afford should be paying...or how many of us would mind paying £1 a week towards health care i know i certainly wouldn't,thousands could be raised that way

Her condition is untreatable, she and her colleagues/fellow sufferers have taken the poshness out of what was Tory spin. Her eyes look like she's had a quick jab of morphine to take the pain of mass idiocy away, and now she's all washed up, spun out and left to dry with very little dribble left. Perhaps ol prezzie could give her a stiff talking to at ..yes wait for it..admiralty house, it would make Lord Nelson's missing eye cry.

Now stop and listen to the news report before throwing a wobbler!

With limited resources, medics propose to give priority to procedures which are more likely to be successful. People who are grossly obese and people who are heavy smokers take longer in surgery, longer to recover from surgery, are more likely to suffer long term damage as a result of general anaesthesia, and are much less likely to see a successful outcome from many surgical procedures.

What is wrong with the doctor saying "Your chances of benefitting from this procedure are much better if you stop smoking / lose some weight. Let's sort that first, then try surgery"

From a practical point of view, if the surgical costs to treat a non-smoker are half that to treat a smoker (through reduced recovery times and fewer complications) it makes sense to treat 2 non-smokers rather that one smoker.

maximum in all probability :) interesting data. in case you have a psychological project like oh.. Bi-polar/schizophrenia/and so on and want state tips, they deliver you a hospital. those clinics interior the states ninety% of the time run via a non secular team. So in a manner, in the journey that your psychological wellbeing is each introduced into question and you assert "God made me" they are going to confirm to have an expert accessible to label you loopy.

Add to that people over 65. I wonder how long it will befoe all English people go on the list.

I imagine that when the men in white coats come for Blair it will be two for the price of one and they will cart her along too.
They're both past their sell by date, let's face it.
