Anchor worms are quite easy to see. They are usually whitish or brownish but can seem to be a light shade of several colors. What you are describing sounds like and anchor worm to me.

Sounds like an anchor worm. Net the fish and hold it just below the water so you can get good acess to the worm, take a tweezers and pull it out carefully. Treat with antibiotics until the wound is better.

It certainly looks like you have "Anchor worm" The best bet is to catch an infected fish, remove a "worm" & take it to your fish retailer, who will confirm & supply a remedy.

You can see it. It'll be brownish or whitish, coming from a small open wound in the fish. You can use tweezers to remove them - grip them as close to the wound as possible and pull them out.
