Hi. I use avast! antivirus which I feel is very good. There is a free home version available here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
This antivirus is very good. It stands up to many others.
Another good free alternative is AVG which you can get from
www.grisoft.com
Hope this helps

I'm going to assume you have Windows XP on your machine, since your PC is so new.
Norton is just crap, and not worth buying. It used to be good but these days it is just horrible bloat ware that slows down your machine. So I would never suggest buying it.
The best thing to do is to uninstall Norton. The Windows security monitor will then tell you that you no longer have a virus killer on your machine. When you click on the little red shield icon that pops up Windows will lecture you on the importance of having a virus killer. It will then ask you if you would like some help finding one.
If you click yes, you will be take to a web site offering free trials of virus killers. One of them, by Computer Associates offers a one year free trial. So download that one and you don't have to think about it for another year. If you decide to buy it a year from now it is some nominal fee like $19.99 per year.
That's what I did, and I have not had any problems on any of my computers.
