Agents-Pick of a copy of "The Agencies" it has a list of all the agents in LA, you read the type of actors each agency is seeking and you mail them your headshots, if they are interested they will call you in for an audition. Cold mailing can be successful, but referrals from friends work best.

Headshots-Digital COLOR photos. Do not get black & white headshots, they are no longer used in LA. Since alot of casting is done online you want digital shots because you can email and submit to projects using the digitial shots. Digital shots range anywhere from $50-400.

If you are moving to LA solely to be an actress, prepare to spend most of your time waiting tables. Also, you need to be involved right now with community theater, acing workshops, school plays and things like that. You don't get an agent until you have proven yourself. Agents take only people off whom they feel they can make money, and you also need connections in the business in LA and for that matter in New York. If you really want to act, settle for local experience at this point, and worry about agents later. It's very hard to get an agent and most people continue to wait tables, never making it to the big time. Your chances are very low, so before moving to LA (very expensive to live there), get your education and take first things first.

Getting an agent can be tricky. Start simply with the phone book and mail out headshots. Ask other actors about who the best photographers are for your pics. You can get alot of info by taking acting classes. This is an awesome blog about acting in Hollywood.
