The Cubs are capable of winning the NL Central. Personally I think they will. Pinnella might be the answer short term but I think the moves the Cubs made in the field were really good ones. If Lou can keep his temper the Cubs fans will embrace him. If not they will run his butt right out of town. Cubs fans deserve a winner not some crazy side show from Pinnella.

Not being a Cubs fan, but being a huge baseball fan in general, I am a little leary of the Cubs team this year. Lou is a great coach, but the Cubs basically put all their eggs in 1 basket. They completely overpaid an average pitch (Lilly). They still have the same two pitchers that are on the DL every year. The only consistant pitcher they have is Zambrano. He can't carry that team himself. They will have a great offense, but there pitching will really have to come through. Case in point the Milwaukee Brewers of last year were averaging more than 6 runs a game before the all star break and had a winning record. Sheets and Ohka got hurt, there run production was around 5, but couldn't win a game because their pitcher could not keep the other teams from scoring.

Of course they will win more games. They will win the whole thing this year! A dynasty is on the rise on the North Side! Yankees had the 1900's and the CUBS will have the 2000's!!!
PS: yes, I am a deluded CUBS fan and always have been - remember: hope springs eternal

The money spent isn't really a big deal considering everyone over paid this year for free agents.
Lou is in a much better situation that Dusty was and will be able to have more success. The Cubs will content baring long term key injuries that they always encounter.
If they stay healthy look for good things.

Even the best jockey can't win if he has a bad horse.
I'm not saying that the Cubs did or didn't do a good job in overhauling the team. That remains to be seen. But I am saying that no matter who the manager is, he can't account for more than a small handful of games, in either direction. It's the players who win or lose.

HEY HEY!!!! Cubs fans, I think that they will win more games under Piniella, but it won't be just because of Piniella. It will be because of their acquisitions like Alfonso Soriano. And their pitching led by Zambrano. I don't see the 2007 Cubs doing worse than 2006. Now that they revamped their team, they could only do better. Good luck to the Cubs and their fans in 2007.

Not after this note from cubs.com..I wish it was a joke but it is true
MESA, Ariz. -- The good news on the first day of workouts for Cubs pitchers and catchers Thursday was that Mark Prior and Wade Miller both threw off a mound. The bad news was that Kerry Wood was sidelined with an injury.
Wood bruised his right side when he fell out of a hot tub at his home Monday night. He'll be sidelined four to five days. His ego was hurt more than his rib cage.
"I'm just getting ready for Spring Training, feeling good," Wood said. "I [got out of the tub] and landed on my stomach and my chest and didn't feel too good. It's that time of year for me."
Wood, limited to four starts last season because of shoulder problems, had been throwing well the last two months leading up to the start of camp. This was not how he wanted to start Spring Training.
"I've got six weeks to get ready," he said. "I feel like I need 2 1/2 [weeks]. I was ready to go. I'd like to show people I'm ready instead of getting ice packs and people asking me questions. I am ready to go, I will be ready to go."
