We can't. The only proposed technique to do so is the reduction of the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide. Since, in the entire 400,000 year history available in Vostok ice cores, there has never been an incident where a change in carbon dioxide concentration preceded a temperature change, there is no possibility that a variation in such concentration now would be expected to have any effect.

Arial had a great answer on what we can do as individuals.
On a larger scale though, to prevent human induced global warming we have to reverse what we have done. When we pump oil out of the Earth, we essentially take carbon that has been sequestered for millions of years and dump it into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide.
The easiest way to do this is to plant and harvest trees. Trees consume the carbon dioxide in the air and use the carbons to grow. When we cut down a tree and use if for furniture or whatnot, that carbon is trapped in the wood as long as the wood doesn't decay or burn. One ton of dry wood is equivalent to 1.8 tons of carbon dioxide.
But this probably won't be fast enough for our needs. Other proposals are that we capture carbon dioxide chemically from power plants and even right out of the atmosphere and bury it either beneath the Earth or at ocean depths where the pressures are great enough that the CO2 becomes a liquid form and dissolves in the ocean water.

I don't believe we can. We have lived on this earth for a very very short time. There are cycles that occur over a period of hundreds of years. We human live only a hundred years max. It's just not enough time to research an event completely. We have come a long way in the last 100 yrs but not far enough. Should we conserve our resources? YES! Should protect our earth? YES! We don't know enough to say humans have caused global warming. There may be a natural cycle for the events that are happening. Did you know our days weren't always 24 hrs long? They are today but millions of years ago they weren't. Humans didn't change the rotation of the earth.

hey first your question is wrong prevention means to stop a thing before it really happens so it is not so .The phenomena of global warming has started and the world is to go off .The reason is that in the frozen reasons of the world huge carbon and ethanol gases has been frozen for millions of years as the temperature increases ice melts and the gas is released .The gas boosts global warming and as a result this acts as a vicious cycle of global warming.only thing we can do is reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we use or else .......!!!!!

As far as global warming is concerned, it is too late. We are already going through it. If people had cared and not had the attitude of "I'm just one person.", we would have prevented it. Taking measures to reduce pollution would have helped a great deal. I have had problems with my dad not caring about the future of our planet with the grandchildren. My room mates will not recycle, and boy, can we make bank with all the beer cans and bottles.

we can prevent global warming by making awarness among people in every part of the world. All of we know the cause of this global warming. scientist has already find out the solution of this. but no one are following them. kyoto protocol is there but it is not so effective because we the people of this world are not following its rule. we r inviting our own destructoion. Therefore every person of this world should take the steps given by scientist to prevent global warming. And the solution given by the scientists should be reach to every one in every part of this beautiful world. Then only we can save our planate .

Reduce 'carbon emission'--anything that creates carbon, like driving your car, or the exhaust from your house. Carbon emission contribute to the Greenhouse Effect. So cut back on producing those things!
