In many parts of Britain the government is to put up road signs in polish.Road signs Are very expensive.Theyre training government workers in basic polish,which costs more money.Remember when Britain had an influx of asians and blacks and well they were made to learn english.Are we seeing double-standards?-because theyyre also white?

Its bloody crazy, the government has no idea.
Whatever the nationality of a person, if they emmigrate it should be up to them to learn the native customs and language.
I would not expect to move to Spain, and have them put up signs in English, it would be my decision to move and therefore my responsibility to at least try and learn Spanish.
Common frigging sense, perhaps we should all learn Latin! ;-)

They have signs in English all over Europe.
The news Item that I read did not say that they were going to put up signs all over Britain. It was a particular council where they were working on the road.
Anyway it won't take a Pole long to learn English and when they have they will probably speak better than the locals.
What about changing the signs to metric or are the locals too thick. The other day on the radio they asked a class of school kids how far distances in miles were and they did not know because they learn in Km. What happens when they start driving?

I totally agree. Unfortunately we share this country with some very greedy people would would sell their Granny for an ipod, let alone you. We have to worry about immigration, we are an island, we have limited space and limited resources that diminish with time; the money will leave this country without so much as a goodbye when it finally ends up as a third world shite hole! You could re-train, but like the Nurses, by the time your training is over, the jobs will be gone We now have a shite education system, forcing more of OUR citizens into low paid work and a stream of immigrants all competing for it! Combine this with the rush of companies taking their employment abroad to make yet more profit and you have a not so happy little island heading down the toilet. You will want to move one day, that day will be when you look around and realise that England's Green and pleasant land is now a sewage plant! and all those chasing the money and thinking they understand the REAL issues here, will finally realise what you were on about!

I do not think that it is double standards or a colour issue. It is my understanding that at least some of those Asian / Black immigrants would have some knowledge of English.
I think also you have to remember 'back then' there was no such thing as 'Political correctness'. Sounds to me as though (as normal) a council has decided to put the needs of a minority over the needs of the majority.
It is totally mad - if someone goes to settle in a country they should learn the language & local customs.

I don't think many Asians & blacks had to be made to learn English. Most of the blacks already spoke English, because they were from English-speaking islands. As for the Asians, our experience here in the states is that they're so smart, it only takes them about 20 minutes to learn anything.

And when an English speaking person goes abroad? Next time you are in Europe count the signs etc that are in English. The UK is at the bottom for foreign language learning.
Anyway it was only one local council, not the government.

It is worth bearing in mind that Tone as lost a lot of the Muslim vote with his war mongering,without this a great number of his MPs will not be re elected,so why not pander to Eastern Europeans and replace that vote with theirs?

We could use a few polish,instead of the ugly we get.you english are a little on the ugly side or lets just say plain to be kind.We will take them all.
