Probably because once we've experienced and survived difficult times, we tend to downplay the pain and problems we had. When we're going through a difficult time and searching for answers, it can seem to consume us and we may even obsess about it. History can be edited and replayed in our own minds and this can make it seem more bearable.

It just requires a shift in the mindset - to realize the thing that you already know. When you are passing through an uncomfortable phase, we think it is the end of the world and that we are stuck. We cross that hurdle and the next one which is seemingly more difficult comes along. So the earlier one seems nothing. It can be made easy, by just realizing that the current difficult phase becomes a past event (which is going to be glorified) at a later date.
Another reason, Past event is already passed and we dont need to do anything about it (we have already done it away with). But the present time, we need to do something.
As they say, it is good for us to remember this simple formula, Past is an encashed cheque, Future is a promissory note, Present is a present(gift) of ready cash in hand. So we can only spend this - all the other things are either passed or a promise.
Have fun! Now - Don't postpone happiness or rest on the past!

We glorify the past compared to the present because we are no longer haunted by the past pains(except some deep mental scars by the loss of some beloved ones)compared to the present pains or pleasures which we undergo right now.
It is always the case with any bad things or bad experiences.
1)A bad boss in the present will look worse than the worst boss in the past
2)A bad time in the present will look worse than the worst time in the past.
3) a difficulty in the present will look worse than the worst difficulties we passed through in the past.
We can add any number of such incidents in everybody's life experience.
That is the human nature.

I don't entirely agree. I can with a great degree of objectivity state that there are a lot many periods in time, in my past that I now consider as really, sincerely tough times. And, in my present situation and experience in life and with the wisdom of hindsight now, would try to avoid such situations in the future. However, one can never be absolutely sure, of what life has in store for you. Yet, looking at the past, I feel content that I have survived those trying times. I still maintain that life is good today and I hope it will be tomorrow - by the grace of God.

we already know what has happened in our past and its easier to accept whereas the present and future is unknown, every second the world is changing. Present with its unknown is more scarier and past is known and regardless of what it was its dealt with and accepted because it cant be changed.
