It depends on whether I have to pass sombody or not. That is the only reason for a rear view mirror. Of course I could always turn around to see who is behind me but then I might rear end the guy in front of me and then I have to buy him a new car, and who wants to do that. Luckily I learned long ago to turn around when I am in reverse. Otherwise, I watch both my mirrors and my windshield. Just in case.

I look at it both ways. Mostly through the windshield, b/c im ready for anything that gets in my way. Sometimes when im down in the dumps i look through the rear view mirror. Just to remember some of the bad things i done to where i will not make the same mistakes again. And to see how i got through with the problems.

I prefer the windshield. What has happened in the rearview mirror is done.

I try to live & learn according to the decisions made (in the rearview mirror) and look forward (through the windshield).

Just like any good driver, I mainly look through the windshield, but keep checking behind, & look both ways before making a turn.
