The more people we have to listen to the more variety. Music is something there can never be too much of. I agree there are too many "American Idols" but other than that I don't have problem with it.

The great actress Helen Hayes used to complain about the misuse of the word artist - we have a million singers, we have very few artists. Helen Hayes used to say (speaking about actors) that in her whole life she had only met two or three who rose to the standard of artists. She said that she and most of the others were craftsmen - acting is a craft, and we work at it.
Same thing with singing. Most of the "singers" today aren't even crafts people - they haven't bothered to learn the craft of singing, they yell and screetch and want to make a lot of money and "be famous."
Artists? Few and far between

Do u hav something against music? It surrounds us and ALWAYS will! American idol probably gets paid a lot of $$$$ to keep the show going. Lots of people out there have dreams to become a famous singer. Don't make those thousands of people feel like they can't make their dreams come true!

You don't have to listen to them all. That's like saying there are too many books out there because you'll never read them all.
It's all about choice and variety. Also, the more competition there is the further artists have to push themselves to stand out from the crowd and, in my opinion, that can only be a good thing.

That is SOOO TRUE! i think that if sponsers dont slow down on who they are sponsering, then by like the year 2010, There wont be ANYTHING to sing, rap, or talk about, cuz it's allready in someones song, and we'll get in trouble for COPYRIGHT. so yes, there are definatly too many artist to choose from, i too, cannot answer the question "whose your fav artist" i could, but it would take me a minute...andrew

Well consider the failure rate with the past American Idol winners, I figure we to increase the odds by having more contests so that we can find another Kelly and Clay.

You can NEVER have enough artists. This would be a sad world if we only had a few people to listen to.

You are right... But there's also the people who never get recognized... They can play just as well as the famous ones... And yet cannot get recognized...

I agree. Everyone wants to be in that field, and most of them aren't talented (even some celebs aren't really talented; they're just big because of their looks).
