I'd say-give him a bit of rest. See what rest did to Sourav Ganguly- a world of good. It's not that everyday a good player has to perform well- everyone has his or her own off day. A string of off-days means a burnout or something like that.
Had he been rested and asked to play the Ranji matches, he could have been at the top of his form.
