I'd say-give him a bit of rest. See what rest did to Sourav Ganguly- a world of good. It's not that everyday a good player has to perform well- everyone has his or her own off day. A string of off-days means a burnout or something like that.
Had he been rested and asked to play the Ranji matches, he could have been at the top of his form.

If he fails in the Vishakhapatnam ODI then he should voluntarily withdraw his name from the team. In his situation I would do that without a doubt.
