If you can do this without hurting yourself ( I speak from experience!!);
Take a sharp pair of scissors or a utility knife
fold up the bottom of your jeans to reveal the inside of the pant leg.
Carefully trim away the hemming that you see ( the folded material) to release the sewn jean.
wash and walk in them.
This is the quickest way, but also the way to keep your jeans at the length you may want.
Good Luck

Simply cut off the hem and nature will take care of the rest. If you're in a hurry, use tweezers to pull out some of the crossthreads to create fraying.

You can use a disposable razor and just sort of saw at the seam. You can fray it as little or as much as you want that way. Wash and dry several times.

Be patient, they'll eventually do it on their own. Why would you want clothes that are intentionally fraying, which is similar to falling apart?

I have read that sandpaper works too...massaging it around the bottom in a circular motion over and over gently.

You can cut the edges of the hem and wash them. Walking on them is good, also.
