A guitar maker is a luthier.
Every summer in Healdsburg, California (near Santa Rosa in the Napa Valley) there is a week-long guitar festival where luthiers from all over the country meet and show off their work.
You can try out their beautiful guitars as well.
Every day, non-stop, there are free concerts, workshops, and jam sessions, and at night there are more formal concerts.
If you like the acoustic guitar, it is a great time. I have gone a couple of times. The dates are usually available in Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
