You sound very much like me. If I had my choice I would have dozens of every kind of animal and I would love them all. However, just having them in your home is not the only way to make sure you show your love of animals. After a very beloved dog of mine died I continued to purchase dog food as if he were alive and I donated it to the local animal shelter. The developed into finding out other items they need. You wouldn't believe the simple everyday items they need besides food for the animals. And you could also volunteer your time. You could also make sure to take care of the outside animals in your neighborhood, birds, deer, squirrels, etc. I live in an area where we receive several months of cold weather and occasionally snow, so my family and I make sure the bird feeders stay full and we make crackers with peanut butter and seed on top for other animals and throw day old bread and bruised fruit/veggies out to the deer and other wildlife. We try to be as diligent in our care of the outside critters as we are of our inside critters. Think it over, you don't have to "own" an animal to be giving lots of care and love. You'd be of more service by broadening your horizons. Good luck and God Bless. P.S. let me know what you do.

Because even though you love it, they will have to pay the vet bills and probably clean up after it. Kids have great intentions, but they are kids. They "forget" they want to go run with friends which leave the pet home with the parents. A pet is a lot of responsibility. Nothing is "Wrong" with you What other animal is it that you want? Just enjoy your cat. When you are older and have your own home, then you will either get any pet you want, or understand why your parents are telling you no.

It depends on how old you are.

I owned 6 animals at one time- 2 horses, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I will never do that again, as I didn't have enough time that all 6 of them needed. My horses went to good homes and my cats are with my ex-husband. Now I have my two dogs, and they both need lots of attention, sometimes more than what I have time to give. I work full time, am dating again, and have bills to pay. As much as I would love to go back to the SPCA and get another dog, I know I just can't.

Your parents aren't being mean, but they are looking out for your best interest. School, work, and even a social life are important. If you don't have a job- who is going to pay for your new pet's medical expenses?

Go squeeze your cat. I'm sure it would love that extra attention. And be patient- in time you'll be able to get another pet that needs your love. :)

Some people don't like having more than one animal. Plus, also it does cost more money to have more pets. Maybe they can't afford another animal.

Don't worry, when you get older and have your own place you can have more animals. There are many animals needing homes at animal shelters and rescue groups.

You could ask your parents if you could become a foster home for at least one pet at a time. I don't know if they would go for that. It does sound like they are pretty set in their ways.

But it never hurts to ask.

Did you ever ask your parents why you can't have another pet? If so, what was there answer? Did they say we already have a pet? Then I would say they are problem happy with just one pet.

When you live on your own you can have all the animals you want!

In the meantime...
Offer to pet-sit or walk your neighbors' pets. Let them know when they're gone on vacation you'll be happy to take care of their critters. This will make you a few dollars and prove responsibility to your parents.

If you can, volunteer at your local humane society or animal shelter or vet office or zoo. That will give you some time with animals.
Often, Humane Societies look for "foster" homes for pets they feel can be adopted rather quickly. Ask your parents if you can "foster" a pet for a few weeks. The danger in that is getting attached to the animal!

Good luck!

If you love animals that much, and I'm sure you do..............think about studying to become a veterinarian! My parents never allowed me to even have a cat! consider yourself lucky! Since I've been married, I've raised teacup poodles, Siberian Huskies, had a 30 inch high fully grown mini horse, had ducks, had fish, had my sons' snakes, and now, I have a teacup mini toy fox terrier. It IS your family's home, and you must respect that. When you have a home of your own, you can GET more animals, and take VERY good, loving care of ALL of them!

There is nothing wrong with you. When you get out and get a place of your own, then you can have all the pets you want, hunny. But until then, you need to obey your parent's rules.

Cheers

Maybe your parents think that one pet at a time is all you need. When you grow up you can have a house full! Hang in there, maybe they will soften up!
