So if there is a last minute reprieve, the prisoner won't get an infection?

Like they said above, needles come in sterile packages. They aren't very expensive, so the cost savings of reuse (especially versus danger to other people handling the used needle) isn't worth it.

It is because they throw the needles away after using them, no one saves disposable needles. It is for the person administering the injections protection as well as the patient, although in this case more for the worker than the patient. LOL

It is a matter of medical ethics to do so.And the term is euthanasia not killing or homicide dear friend. It has a sanction in extreme cases.Hope you read about Terri Schiavo.Poor thing. How she suffered. But the death was brought about by passive euthanasia. But injecting would be active euthanasia and is accepted and does not mean the doctors can act in which ever way they want

All needles are sterile. How else would the needles not be?..Used needles are threw away, they are hardly going to keep them for lethal injections.

because the criminals have a "right" to die a peace-full death and so have the "right" to a clean sterile needle

needles normally come in sterile singular packages, so it'd make sense not to have unsterile or used needles hanging about!!

good question tho!

Because they have standards for the medical profession that they have to follow called protocols. Even though they are going to die, they still have to follow.
