King Erginus 1 of the Minyans, who was later killed by Heracles 1, inquired the Oracle about children, and having received the answer...

"Erginus, son of Clymenus Presboniades,
Late thou camest seeking offspring, but even now
To the old plough-tree put a new tip."

I think he meant that men are never too old to procreate. My dad used to say that 'many a new tune is played on an old fiddle' He was quite a lady's man well into his seventies.

Erginus,my old son,

You came looking for the band The Offspring too late, because now
their music belongs underneath the plough tree on the rubbish tip.

i think she is saying "Erginus whos father is Clymenus Presboniades, it is really late and you are hear seeking your children or a sexual relationship ( i cant decide i would have to read more of the text) and you are still or i cant belive that you.... ( what does the plough-tree have or represent in the story i dont know cuz i have never read this story or play or what ever it may be) .......started again or renewed something."? that is what i am gussing sorry i couldnt be more help. good luck.

My interpretation would be." You are a bit old to be wanting or expecting children. However go back and try again, fertility will follow with a new, possibly younger, fertile woman". The reference to "ploughing" suggests starting again with a new (more receptive) "tip". Erginus, according to some, sired two sons, and lived to a ripe old age.

"Look dawg, you shoulda did dis before you got all krinkly. I tell you what, though, keep hittin' that and see what happens."

or

"King, you have waited until late in life to ask for an heir, but renew your persistance in now, in this late hour."

or

"You are too old for kids, but keep trying and you may still have one."
