Oh what a fun it is hun, i couldnot do this although i have given a lot of times.
you have to use all the basic mathmatics operators that a
plus, minus, division and multiplication all at once.
dont repeat one operator more than once. Make sure that you are
using all the 4 basic mathmatical operators and then the result is 20?
chreers!

It is impossible. No combination, keeping order of operation, will equal 20.

Try it for yourself, there are 24 possible combinations of the four operators. If you try all 24, the closest you get is 19.

4+4-4*4/4=4
4+4-4/4*4=4
4+4*4-4/4=19
4+4*4/4-4=4
4+4/4-4*4=-11
4+4/4*4-4=4
4-4+4*4/4=4
4-4+4/4*4=4
4-4*4+4/4=-11
4-4*4/4+4=4
4-4/4+4*4=19
4-4/4*4+4=4
4*4+4-4/4=19
4*4+4/4-4=13
4*4-4+4/4=13
4*4-4/4+4=19
4*4/4+4-4=4
4*4/4-4+4=4
4/4+4-4*4=-11
4/4+4*4-4=13
4/4-4+4*4=13
4/4-4*4+4=-11
4/4*4+4-4=4
4/4*4-4+4=4

p.s. Stevedude: A couple of things. 4/0 does not equal zero. If you have 5 numbers, there are 4 operators that fit between them. You have 6 4's thats why you needed an extra operator.

I sent this on to "Ask Marylin." Look for it in Parade Magazine in the next month or so.

BTW, unless you add parentheses, which were not included in the original puzzle, it does not matter what order you place the signs between the 4s. Remember "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally?" The answer will always be 4.

there are five 4's, so you have to repeat an operand 1 time

4-4 = 0
4/0 = 0
4+0= 4
4*4= 16
4+16= 20

That's the best i can come up with, you have to add twice

I believe that Alias is correct. I just spent about 30 minutes on this which proves I better get in gear and break away from these teasers, lol. That was fun though; thanks.
