The cycle length is counted from the 1st day of your period until the day before your next period comes again. If your cycle length varies by more than 3 days choose the shortest cycle you have had over the last 6 months to work out when to start testing. If your cycle is 28 days, you should start the testing on day 11 (day 1 is the day your period starts.)
But don't get too hung up on the testing. Try to have sex every day from the day you start testing that way you'll be in with a good chance of getting pregnant coz the sperm will already be on their way to meet the egg when its released. Then When you have detected your LH surge with the test, you should make love during the next 48 hours to maximise your chances of getting pregnant during this cycle.
Good luck

7 days after the last day of your period is when you should be ovulating. and then for the next 14 days you should be fertile.

Based on a 28 day cycle it should be as follows.
Last day of period,
New cycle starts
1 week after period
2 weeks middle of month (best time to get pregnant)
1 week before period.
First day of period.

Even though every one is different, it doesn't matter.
After the last day of your period wait one week and then start to test for ovulation.

I hope this is what you're looking for,
Good luck
